OSM Switchbacks

The infamous Old San Marcos Pass Road switchbacks just before sunrise. If you are a Santa Barbara local cyclist or have visited town for some climbing, you know this ridiculous bend in the road. So steep. Painful on the uphill, scary on the descent, amazing either way.
This was photographed just before sunrise one morning, with the marine layer hovering and creating this moody effect with the lights.
Old San Marcos Pass Road, or OSM, is a short but serious road climb in the Santa Barbara front country with incredible views of the Channel Islands and the coastline. It is a cyclist’s bucket list climb in the area. This angle communicates the insane steepness of one of the switchbacks close to the top.
